Mossberg announced a lineup of improved tactical shotguns just before SHOT Show, including a “tactical turkey blaster” (our words, not theirs). Mossberg’s solution is to offer the new 590R lineup, with a rotary safety similar to what you’d find on a tactical rifle or carbine.Instead of putting your thumb behind the receiver to manipulate the safety, these models let you flip the safety on and off via the switch on the side of the receiver. There’s a switch on each side of the receiver, so like the older tang safety, this updated lineup is friendly to right-handed and left-handed shooters.
